2023 Matters of the Heart Gala: recap & thank yous

The theme of the 2023 Horizon Matters of the Heart Gala was Caribbean Nights, but the evening proved that no man is an island.

An entire community comprised of sponsors, guests, volunteers and staff came together at the Pfister Hotel March 11 to raise money for Horizon's Grief Resource Center (GRC). We're proud to announce that together, we raised $100,000 to keep the GRC and its services free of charge to those experiencing a loss.

David Hobbs Honda was our "Paradise"-level sponsor, and we thanked Greg Hobbs & co. "for being a friend" to Horizon the last several years. After sponsoring the last six Horizon galas and delivering over 2,000 meals for Meals On Wheels since 2018, we are so sad to say farewell to David Hobbs Honda, but so incredibly appreciative for the support over the years. It has been such a special partnership, and an integral one to Horizon's mission. We can't overstate your impact or our gratitude. Congratulations on the next phase, and don't be strangers!

Action Graphics and Digicorp were our "Ocean" sponsors, and their support has been as massive as a tidal wave. We appreciate your steadfast commitment to our cause, and you are joys to work with. We're very lucky to have you by our side!

To our "Island" sponsors Bell Ambulance, Irgens, Preferred Building Supply and The Regnitz Family, we want you to know how grateful we are for your help. Your support directly impacts the thousands who seek comfort through our Grief Resource Center. Thank you for bettering our community!

Our "Palm" sponsors were Ascension, AT&T, Delta Care, Cubanitas, Enterprise, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin, Integrity Wealth Management, Majic, Marcus Corporation, McBee, Network Health, Sendik's, Van Horn, Vizance and Willis of Wisconsin. We thank you so very much for making the Grief Resource Center and Horizon's mission a priority. You make it possible for us to provide support to those on their journeys of grief, and we're forever grateful.

And our "Tourist"-levels sponsors BMO, CLA, Concordance Healthcare Solutions, Davians, Froedtert South, Kesslers Diamonds, Lincoln Financial Group, Marquette Associates, Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin, StateServ and Total Wine, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your support improves the lives of so many in our community when they need it most. We're proud to be linked with you.

We are so very happy to have the support of so many additional donors, as well.

Though it was a chilly March evening, De La Buena kept us warm with their delightful sounds. Andrew Varela, Susan Varela and Ashley Rodriguez were electric presences, as always, and it's always outrageously fun to work with them. The Pfister Hotel continues to be the perfect venue for our efforts.

We were proud to honor our 2023 Touching Lives Award recipients: Diane Ehn of Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin, Tom "Mel" Stanton of Mel's Charities and Laura Hey of Health Heelers. Each has dedicated their life to the betterment of others in their own unique way, and they deserve our recognition and appreciation.

And finally, to our dedicated staff, intrepid volunteer team and creative committees, thank you for putting on such a touching, entertaining and successful event. You did it again!
